A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon| Children’s Book Read Aloud | Storytime With Ms. Becky

A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon | Read-Along

Camilla Cream loves lima beans, but she never eats them. Why? Because the other kids in her school don’t like them. Camilla Cream is very worried about what other people think about her, but at the very moment she most wants to fit in, she becomes completely covered in colorful stripes! Worse yet, she seems to change colors to match whatever is happening around her. When the class says the Pledge of Allegiance, she turns red, white, and blue! Instead of blending in, she’s standing out.

Specialists are called but the situation goes from bad to worse. Isn’t there anyone who can help Camilla remember what it means to be herself?

Sure to invite discussion, this is an engaging book that imaginatively explores the risks of trying to be like everyone else.

Thank you for watching today’s storytime with Ms. Becky! What book do you want Ms. Becky to read next?

The Gruffalo – Narrated by Pad (the full, proper, unadulterated version)

If you liked it, check out my narration of the ‘Gruffalo’s Child’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibctn5G-_dg

This is for my kids, so I can read them a bedtime story whenever I’m away. They think I do the best Gruffalo narration on the web … but they would, wouldn’t they. Let me know if you agree. 🙂

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood.
A fox saw the mouse, and the mouse looked good.

“Where are you going to, little brown mouse?
Come and have lunch in my underground house.”

“It’s terribly kind of you, Fox, but no –
I’m going to have lunch with a gruffalo.”

“A gruffalo? What’s a gruffalo?”
“A gruffalo! Why, didn’t you know?

He has terrible tusks, and terrible claws,
And terrible teeth in his terrible jaws.”

“Where are you meeting him?”
“Here, by these rocks,
And his favourite food is roasted fox.”

“Roasted fox! I’m off!” Fox said.
“Goodbye, little mouse,” and away he sped.

“Silly old Fox! Doesn’t he know,
There’s no such thing as a gruffalo?”

On went the mouse through the deep dark wood.
An owl saw the mouse, and the mouse looked good.

“Where are you going to, little brown mouse?
Come and have tea in my treetop house.”

“It’s terribly kind of you, Owl, but no –
I’m going to have tea with a gruffalo.”

“A gruffalo? What’s a gruffalo?”
“A gruffalo! Why, didn’t you […]
